Special Greases
The bearing lubrication aims especially at reducing the internal friction and wear, in order to prevent overheating.

Lubrication effects:

1. Friction and Wear Reduction
The metal contact between rings, rolling elements and cage, which are the basic components, is prevented by an oil film that reduces friction and wear.

2. Extended Fatigue Life
The fatigue life of bearings is extended when the rotary contact surfaces are properly lubricated during the turn. Inversely, low oil viscosity implies in an insufficient lubricant film, thus reducing the fatigue life.

3. Friction Heat Dissipation, Cooling
The circulation lubrication method prevents the lubricant oil degradation and the bearing heating, by cooling and dissipating the heat generated by the friction or from external sources.

4. Others
Proper lubrication also prevents that foreign particles penetrate into the bearing, in addition to prevent oxidation and corrosion.

Lubrication Methods

There are two lubrication methods, by grease or oil. The first step to achieve a good bearing performance is the adoption of the most adequate method for the proposed application and operation conditions. By considering only the lubrication, the oil utilization brings more benefits. However, the grease lubrication enables simplifying the configuration of the equipment using the bearing. The grease vs. oil lubrication comparison is shown in the table below:
