In the early 1980s, the manufacturers of machine tools throughout the world started to replace the conventional bars by linear guides, which provide high precision, high rigidity and smooth running. That was the time when NSK started to produce linear guides that complied with these features.
The use of gothic arc in the linear guides enables a wide contact angle, with clearance reduction, which enables high load capacity with smooth movement. Also, it enables perfect positioning of the balls between the rail and skids, which is impossible to achieve when using the simple radius normally used by other manufacturers.
