The steel-iron works industry plays a central role in economy, accounting for 2.2% of the Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as well as for the production of articles extremely important to other sectors, such as automotive, oil, naval and civil construction sectors, among others.
Having a local production capacity for 34 million tons a year (currently in expansion), Brazil is the major steel producer in Latin America, with a competitive industry in the world level.
NSK has key clients in the steel-iron works segments, among them, Usiminas, Acesita, Companhia Siderúrgica Paulista (Cosipa), Companhia Siderúrgica de Tubarão (CST), Villares and Belgo Mineira. The company offers intelligent solutions for bearings: parts designed and developed to meet the different exposure conditions of plants throughout the steel-iron works process, from sintering to production finishing phase, such as high temperatures, high loads and residual or humidity contamination. Bearings with HTF and SWR technologies.
Many of the bearings used by the steel-iron works industry are voluminous and applied to large-sized equipment, which makes the access for replacements and maintenance more difficult. In order to solve this problem, NSK works with split bearings, which facilitate equipment maintenance (application and removal) and reduce downtime by approximately 50%.
Another NSK innovation for the steel-iron works industry refers to the exclusive bearings with STF and WTF technologies, which are more resistant to contamination by water or particles in the lamination process. These bearings are sealed, which eliminates the need for frequently using lubricants, as they are more protected from residue retention, presenting better performance and savings.
